Freecycle Promotion
Do you think Redditch Freecycle is a great community resource? Is it helping you clear out your clutter? Do you wonder why nobody thought of doing this before? Maybe you would like to help promote the group or volunteer in some way or maybe even become a moderator of the group!
There are various ways you can help:
- If you`re interested in moderating the group, please click here or scroll down the page
- We have posters & leaflets which need displaying across the town. Perhaps you can display a poster at your work place, on your church noticeboard, in your shop window etc. Or maybe you can distribute leaflets amongst your friends & family, to your work colleagues, community group etc. Please contact us and tell us how many you`d like and we`ll get some to you.
- We also have free coasters/beermats & car window stickers which are a great way to promote Freecycle. Perhaps your office or pub would like some coasters, or you`d like a sticker for your car. Again, please contact us
- If you run a local website or have a MySpace, blog etc, please consider displaying a link to this website. If you have room for an image link, feel free to use our logo, otherwise a text link would be great.
- We hold information stalls at local community events, fairs, fun days etc. Many of our members have been found in this way & it`s useful for existing members to talk to us about any issues they have using Freecycle. Would you like to help run these stalls? Even just an hour of your time could be useful, please contact us
Moderators Required for Redditch Freecycle
Currently, the Redditch Freecycle group doesn't have enough local moderators and we are asking for volunteers. If you are interested, please read through these qualifications, and if you think you meet most or all of the requirements, please get in touch:
Moderators Should Have These Qualifications
- Must live in the area served by Redditch Freecycle.
- Have a basic knowledge of the Freecycle rules. They can be looked up and learned fairly quickly.
- Time! You should have an hour or so throughout the day and evening to devote to moderating a group. It is a volunteer position - there is no pay or tangible benefits, just the joy of knowing you're giving back to your community.
- Computer, Internet access and computer skills. (Obviously another "must")
- Internet experience. Knowledge of Yahoo!Groups is a huge plus, but not required.
- Writing skills. Correct spelling, proper punctuation, complete sentences, and proper grammar are a must. You must not type in "chat mode" or "IM mode." This means no all upper or lower case typing!
- The ability to follow instructions. Guidelines have been set up for all Freecycle group moderators to maintain in order to be listed on the main Freecycle web page.
- A positive attitude and the ability to keep your cool when dealing with irate or irresponsible members.
- An interest in environmental causes - you know that Freecycle isn't about FREE stuff but about keeping stuff out of the landfills and building community!
There are materials available to help teach you the tricks of moderating a Freecycle group and advice is always available via fellow Redditch moderators and regional/national mod squad groups.
Tell us about yourself! Please let us know:
- Your full name and where you live,
- The email address and ID you use on Freecycle
- If you belong to other Freecycle groups and which one(s)
- Any relevant experience that would be helpful for us to know.
If this sounds like something you'd like to do, please get in touch. And if you know someone else who would make a good moderator, please tell them we`re seeking volunteers. Let us know if you have questions. We're happy to help!
