Welcome to the home of
Redditch and Bromsgrove Freegle
Freegle groups are open to all who want to recycle/rehome
unwanted items rather than throw them away. Whether it's a
chair, a bicycle, a piano or anything that might be useful to
someone, offer it here. Or maybe you'd like to acquire
something yourself? Everyone including children and non-profit
groups are welcome to join!
Freegle is a UK grassroots movement of people who are giving
(and getting) stuff for free in our own towns. Freegle
groups match people who have things they want to get rid of
with people who can use them. Our goal is simply to keep
usable items out of landfills. By using what we already have
on this earth, we reduce consumerism, manufacture fewer goods,
and lessen our impact on the planet. Another benefit of using
Freegle is that it encourages us to get rid of junk that we
no longer need and promote community involvement in the
process.
How do Freegle groups work?
When you have something to give away,
simply post an OFFER message to the group. If someone wants
what you`re offering, they`ll email you privately and you can
arrange collection. When your item has been claimed(or once
it`s actually been collected) post a TAKEN message to let
everyone know that item is no longer available. That`s it,
easy!! When you want something, it works in exactly the same way,
except this time you post a WANTED message and if/when someone is kind enough to
give you what you`re looking for, post a RECEIVED message!
PLEASE ALWAYS
SET OUT THE SUBJECT LINE AS FOLLOWS:
OFFER: mountain bike - Church Hill (to offer an item)
TAKEN: mountain bike - Church Hill (when your item is claimed)
OR
WANTED: three piece suite - Batchley (to request an item)
RECEIVED: three piece suite - Batchley (When you receive it)
This clear format is easy to read and helps the group run
smoothly and effectively for everyone`s benefit. Please ALWAYS include
your location, as shown above.

History of Freegle/ The Freecycle Network
Freegle is a new UK-wide umbrella organisation, formed by experienced volunteers and members of the free reuse community.
As with most Freegle groups, the Redditch and Bromsgrove groups were formerly part of The Freecycle Network. TFN was started in 2003 in Tucson, Arizona, to promote waste reduction and help save desert landscape from being taken over by landfills. In just two years the idea had spread worldwide. Redditch Freecycle was born on January 8th 2006.
However, progressively since its beginnings, it became evident that Freecycle changed radically under our feet while we were working to continue its success. This created an untenable situation for hundreds of volunteers in the UK. After lengthy and patient negotiations with the founder of The Freecycle Network failed, Freegle was formed. Click Here for more about the split.
We are really excited to now be Freegle! All groups within Freegle belong to a truly grassroots movement that values and respects its members and volunteers. And in the process, we continue to keep usable items out of landfill.
Thanks to wonderful support from Worcester County Council over the years, numerous articles in the local press and our own efforts at local community events, Redditch Freegle has amassed more than 10,000 members in little over 4 years and are now one of the biggest and most active groups in the West Midlands!
When Redditch Freecycle became Redditch Freegle is April 2010, we also set up Bromsgrove Freegle, to replace the old Freecycle group in Bromsgrove. We hope that the re-formed Bromsgrove group will be as successful as Redditch Freegle.
